Dear Future Customer......

Dear Future Customer,

Hello, My name is Tom Jones, founder of Pacific NW Surfacing.  We install a superior waterproof deck membrane system (Polydeck®160 System) manufactured by Polycoat.  This system utilizes advanced technology to provide the highest quality "Elastomeric" materials available anywhere.  It will provide you with a tuff and flexible seamless membrane that is beautiful, long lasting, slip resistant and most of all, waterproof.

Elastomeric waterproof deck coatings such as the Polydeck® 160 System have outstanding performance and longevity.  The liquid applied deck membrane stays flexible, will not soften when hot nor embrittle when cold and can elongate up to 1100% allowing a lifetime of building expansion and contraction. These types of membranes are commonly used for pedestrian deck waterproofing, plywood deck waterproofing, concrete deck waterproofing, tile underlay, waterproof balconies over living space, pool decks, walkways and driveways.

It can normally be applied over concrete, plywood, metal, or most any sound existing surface with superior bonds.  The mixture can be adjusted using fine silica sand to level or slope any size imperfection, fill voids, cracks, and imperfections in the original surface. The end result is a beautiful, seamless, waterproof deck surface that can handle hard-usage.  See Specifications

Polycoat base membrane deck coatings are a liquid, non-solvent, flexible urethane rubber that uses a two part mix to activate. Polycoat (also known as Tufflex) has been used at ski resorts for over 30 years. It is the perfect surface in that environment as it is impervious to freeze-thaw problems, soft to walk on and provides a sound deadening quality of ski boot traffic noise.  Elastomeric deck coatings are no wimp in the sunshine States either.  It can handle up to 160 degrees and is commonly used in the harshest Desert environments.

We install the Polycoat elastomeric deck membrane system using a variety of textures depending on slip resistance needs.  We use rubber granules for aggressive texture situations and fine sand for most residential applications.  A final coat of a color aliphatic urethane top coat finishes this system off. The top coat provides the highest level of UV protection.  This popular system offers the most attractive seamless waterproof membrane offered anywhere.

Elastomeric deck membrane coatings form an impenetrable barrier on everything from ship and pool decks
to hotel balconies to the most challenging waterproofing projects you might have.

You can also level-up old concrete balconies, walkways and driveways for substantially less than it would cost to have the concrete broken out and re-poured.  Correct most any slope to improve drainage or reverse negative-slope on balconies or walkways.  Polycoat Elastomeric Coating Systems are second to none in the industry.

We have helped thousands of people to protect their properties from expensive water damage and I hope we can be of help to you too. Please call or write for more information. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Thomas Dwaine Jones

Note of clarification from Thomas:

We installed the Tufflex Waterproofing Systems for the first 10 years of Pacific NW Surfacing history.

Many people don't realize that Polycoat has always been the primary manufacturer of Tufflex.  Tufflex has an amazing track record but over the years Polycoat has advanced it's technology and now produces, in my opinion, a higher quality product line that is only available from Polycoat.  We therefore now only apply products that come directly from the Polycoat Manufacturer.

Job Histories

Over the last 15 years we have been involved in some interesting and quite sophisticated installations. Just a few of these are outlined in the following text.

Ski resort decks represent the worst combination of harsh climatic conditions and wear and tear.  Elastomeric deck membrane systems were first developed for, and tested in ski resorts to solve this problem. They have developed quite a performance history on hundreds of ski resort decks. Darwin's theory of building materials, only the tough survive the tough jobs. We waterproofed the balconies and walkways on three lodges at Crystal Mountain Ski Resort almost fourteen years ago. These coatings hold up to snow shovels and ski boot traffic 9 months out of the year....year in and year out.

Around 13 years ago we were called in to a 225 unit project at Oswego Summit Condominiums in Lake Oswego by a major construction company in Portland Oregon. We were sub-contracted to waterproof and correct the slope on over 100 leaky balconies and then waterproofed tens of thousands of feet of walkway. Many decks had puddles 1/2 inch deep at the slider door.  We corrected the slope by using a thick slurry of Elastomeric mixed with silica sand and were able to install a five directional slope to the front center of each of the 100 scuppers. We then installed the rest of the system as normal to provide the finished anti-slip waterproof surface. A 20 year problem solved.

Motels can also benefit from a low maintenance Elastomeric deck membrane coatings which adds sound deadening properties as well as handling the roughest foot traffic day after day.  We did this Best Western in Vancouver, Washington around 10 years ago. It takes on all the heavy foot traffic and roll cart luggage you can give it.

The Vancouver Swim Facility is another example of our work.  Thousands of parents trust our non skid safety surface every day to keep their children safe from slip and fall accidents in the shower and dressing rooms of this swim facility.  The anti slip non skid safety surface is tough as nails and yet soft to walk on with bare feet.  We use rubber granules for the texture to create a soft, slip proof surface and because the membrane is non-porous it tends to reduce the ability to harbor harmful bacteria.

We were not involved with the Elephants but you may be interested to know that Elephants walk on Elastomeric membranes every day in many Zoo's across the country including the San Diego Zoo, the Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma, Washington, and even here in some of the cages of the Oregon Zoo.  As massive as Elephants feet are they can still be quite tender and can be susceptible to a condition called foot rot. This condition can be fatal. Foot rot is generally caused by the Elephant rubbing sores into it's feet from walking on hard concrete. In nature the ground is much softer. Concrete tends to be porous and holds bacteria and germs which when added to a warm environment, creates the perfect ingredients for a disaster. Elastomeric poured to a depth of 1/2" inch, permanently bonds to the old concrete and provides the perfect soft, but tough non porous membrane.

Elastomeric is also the perfect waterproof tile and stone underlayment membrane.  High quality enamel coated flashings are first installed. All seams and joints are pre-coated with elastomeric and a tough 4" fabric mesh joint tape embedded in and allowed to cure. A 40+ mil. coat of Elastomeric base membrane is applied and allowed to cure followed by a final second 30+ mil. coat with 16# cut sand broadcast to refusal and allowed to cure. The tile or stone can then be applied with an elastomeric type thin-set applied directly to our sanded surface. This is the ultimate waterproof membrane system to underlay tile and stone. We offer a Fifteen (15) Year No Maintenance Warranty on all tile and stone underlayment installations.

From hundreds of condominium and apartment decks, to hotels and resorts, to your local patio or deck, new construction or renovation, it's safe to say we successfully install a product that last. We are thankful for the abundance of referrals we receive over the years from our many happy "leak free" customers.
This is just a short list and overview as well as a work in progress.  Please contact us to see what we can do for you.  We look forward to hearing from you soon!
